Probably a stupid question but have you spoke to any job agencies?

They are the people who have all the contacts for whatever line of work your in.

That might be your best bet.

yes there is a great place that he can get assistant from...
it's call THE OSBORNE ASSOCIATION
                http://www.osborneny.org
tell him to give them a call or stop by one of the few locations they have and i am sure he can get assistant from them. they are a great place to start at! oh i just realized that maybe you are not in NYC :-( but maybe if you call them they might know of any place outside of NYC that can help him out. please tell him not to give up that there are places where he can get help! this is just be start of a great life for him again so tell him to work hard and he would get anything he wishes!

maybe consider becoming a virtual assistant, where you can pretty much determine your own work load/specialty (and research is certainly a speciality). You are your own boss though - I don't know if that is what you are looking for.

There is also guru.com for freelance jobs.

Also perhaps try looking up jobs on monster.com - they might have some links that are helpful for you-

GOOD LUCK!

become an IT consultant, advertise cheaply at first and offer free services to smaller companies to build a name for yourself. for example offer free computer maintenance checks and then you can get your foot in the door and get paid to solve real problems. get a website and business card and get out their and advertise. otherwise you may want to find a smaller company to work for with only a handful of employees to get a good reference. be willing to explain your felony story and dont cover it up.

undercut bigger it companies on your consulting fee so small companies with tight budgets will go to you over them

Slow down your degree process? Do you mean take a full time position and go to school part time? I wouldn't recommend it, as most people who do never finish. You end up in a designer position that can only be promoted to an engineer after receiving the degree.

Monster, Monstertrak, Careerbuilder, Hotjobs, Net-Temps are all good resources for experienced professionals, but sometimes do list entry level and internships. My best advice as an engineering recruiter is to build a list of local engineering and manufacuturing companies, call and ask who the Engineering Manager is (don't tell them it's for a resume or they'll direct you to HR) and mail a hard copy of your resume directly to them. If you can't get the name then address it to "Director of Engineering". II sent 50 of these out for my husband, also a Mechanical Engineer, and received 10 interview requests and several offers.

Another trick is to call other local/popular engineering colleges and pretend to be a prospective student, and ask their career center what companies recruit/hire their engineers. Be sure to send those companies resumes since they actively seek entry level grads & interns.

Best of luck!

Try contacting companies directly and telling them your goals and your plans to relocate. Most companies will help you relocate and pay some accomadations like the first few months rent and moving costs. Especially if you are right out of university!! You are a very desirable candidate.

When I finished university I applied for jobs directly to the HR department and they flew me down for the interview, hired me, then gave me a 15,000$ signng bonus to help buy a house there and a 3 month tax free living allowance. They wanted me bad casue I was a new buisness graduate and companies will hire you in a heart beat.

Good Luck!!

If there is a community theater in your area, volunteer there. Or your local community college. You may not get paid, but if you do that this summer, you can put something on a resume and maybe get paid next summer.
